InSite have been appointed by Redrow Homes to work with them on site specific art commissions for their developments in Bletchley and Stratford upon Avon. As one of the largest building companies in Britain, building approximately 4,000 new homes each year, Redrow’s commitment is to build homes for people to love living in, a community for tomorrow. The art commissions for each development require quite different approaches by the appointed artists, the Bletchley development stands in the grounds of the famous Bletchley Park, home to the Codebreakers during World War II, within a five minute walk to the train station with direct lines to London and Birmingham, ideal commuter belt. The former Cattle Market site in Stratford upon Avon stands adjacent to the town’s station which is soon to be renovated and a new Museum of Transport built in 2010 and will provide 2,3 and 4 bedroom apartments and houses, interspersed with private park areas and provided with private underground parking and with a retail provision along Station Approach.
Working alongside Aukett Fitzroy Robinson InSite Arts have been commissioned to develop a brief and appoint an artist to join the project design team. Working with the architects, landscape architects and lighting designers the appointed artist will play an important role in the realisation of an important new public space within the Redcliff area of the city. The artist appointment will take place before the end of 2008.
